Mississippi Valley State at Grambling State (2 p.m. at Eddie Robinson Stadium)

GRAMBLING, La. – After a tough homecoming loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff last week, the Mississippi Valley State football team now has three games left on their schedule. And like UAPB, this week's opponent, Grambling State, is searching for its first victory of the season.

Last week, the Tigers (0-9, 0-6 SWAC) fell to Texas Southern in overtime – which only builds GSU's confidence heading into Saturday's 2 p.m. matchup.

"I imagine Grambling has a renewed focus, renewed energy (since) they took Texas Southern into overtime this past Saturday," said MVSU coach Karl Morgan. "So, we've got to be prepared to win a football game on the road.

Valley enters Saturday's showdown with one win on the season – a 28-9 victory at Alabama A&M on Oct. 5. Morgan said the season hasn't gone like he and the players would have liked it, but they will continue to fight in each of the final three games of the season.

"The mindset here is to keep everybody going and focused," Morgan said. "The season hasn't gone the way we would have liked it to have gone. ….The thing you have to do is keep fighting. You have to be resilient…..When you're in a fight, you have to throw punches. And we have a fight scheduled for 2 p.m. (Saturday) against Grambling and we have to throw punches."

The Delta Devils will face a Grambling State team that averages 300 yards per game, including 184 through the air. GSU quarterback D.J. Williams has thrown for 1,410 yards and 11 TDs while Jestin Kelly leads the Tigers ground game with 505 yards and two scores.

Meanwhile, Patrick Ivy leads Valley with 713 passing yards and 7 TDs while Cortez Frizell has 207 yards and a pair of TDs on the ground. Julian Stafford has started to emerge in the MVSU offense with 37 receptions for 407 yards and two TDs.

On defense, Avery Boykin, in his first year at MVSU after transferring from Glendale Community College, is ranked first in the SWAC and second in FCS in interceptions with five.
