ITTA BENA -- Mississippi Valley State cornerback Avery Boykin has been named SWAC Newcomer of the Week following his performance last week against Alabama State.

The Glendale Community College transfer finished with seven tackles (1.5 for loss) and an interception, his sixth of the season. He currently ranks first in the SWAC and fourth in the FCS in interceptions per game.
