ITTA BENA -- Mississippi Valley State's Ashley Beals has become the first Devilette to be named SWAC Player of the Week this season. 

The freshman forward was one of three players to finish in double figures with 11 in MVSU's 76-61 loss to Southern Miss on Friday. In back-to-back games, Beals then closed out the week leading Valley to its first victory of the season Saturday. 

The Canton native posted her first career double-double, scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds in the Devilettes' 68-58 win over Eastern Kentucky. She shot 57 percent while posting three assists and two steals duirng her 35 minutes of action. 

So far this season, Beals is averaging 12 points and 6 rebounds per game.
