ITTA BENA -- Two Mississippi Valley State women's basketball players were recently honored for their stellar performances on the court this season.
MVSU senior forward Alia Frank was named First Team All-SWAC while junior point guard Joncyee Sanders was tabbed Second Team.
Frank, a Natchez, Miss. native, led the Devilettes in scoring (11.0) and rebounds (6.4). Frank also surpassed the 1,000-point career mark this season. She helped lead MVSU to a 15-14 regular season record and a third seed in the SWAC Tournament, set to begin Monday in Garland Texas. The Devilettes will take on Alabama A&M Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Curtis Culwell Center.
Meanwhile, newcomer Joncyee Sanders led the SWAC in assists (5.5) and was second on the team in points (8.9). Her assists average ranks 29th in the nation amongst Division I schools. The Delta State transfer scored in double-figures in 11 games this season and dished out a career-best 14 assists against Grambling State on Feb. 25.
