Spring practice underway for Delta Devils

ITTA BENA -- Spring football practice got underway Monday for Mississippi Valley State as the Delta Devils started preparation for its 2013 campaign.

There were a total of 47 players going through drills with many more expected to arrive in the fall.

"I feel like we got off to a good start this afternoon," said Morgan. "Our No. 1 objective is to have everyone make all 15 practice opportunities. We can't get better if we don't show up with a personal improvement plan each day."

MVSU will practice the rest of this week before taking next week off for Spring Break. They'll return afterwards and prepare for its March 27 spring game at Rice-Totten Stadium.

As for now, the Delta Devils are trying to pick up from where they left off last season, winning four of its last six games. MVSU ended the 2012 season with three straight victories with wins over Alcorn State, Prairie View and Texas Southern.

Morgan said he's using spring practice to stress the importance of taking care of the football and leadership.

"We are stressing turnover prevention and creation," he said. "Our third desired goal is an increase in leadership form our players."

The Delta Devils will kick off the 2013 season in Orlando at the Citrus Bowl on Sept. 1 when they face Florida A&M in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge Presented by Disney. Tickets for the event will go on sale early summer. Travel options to attend the MEAC/SWAC Challenge are being finalized by Anthony Travel, the event's official travel provider. Expected offerings will include discounted hotel accommodations, game tickets and specially-priced Theme Park tickets.
