ITTA BENA -- Four Mississippi Valley State softball players have been named to the 2013 All-SWAC team, including MVSU shortstop Alexandria Robertson who was named Hitter of the Year.
MVSU student-athletes garnering first-team honors include senior pitcher Alicia Lorenz and catcher Nicole Burr. Meanwhile, Robertson was tabbed second team while outfielder Yasmin Battle also was named to the second team.
Lorenz, a Paradise, Calif. native, finished the regular season with a 10-16 record and a 3.82 ERA. She led the SWAC in strikeouts with 185, which was 50 more than the player in the second place.
Burr, a Monterey, Calif. native, ranked second on the team in hits with 46 and second in the SWAC in homeruns with eight. Her 25 walks on the season also ranks second in the conference.
Robertson, a Cedar Park, Texas, native led the SWAC in homeruns with 12 and led the Devilettes with a .390 batting average. She also ranks second in the conference in slugging percentage (.778) and RBIs (45) and third in hits with 60.
Meanwhile, Battle, a sophomore from Baca Raton, Fla., hit .237 on the season with 32 hits and a team-high three triples.
