Devilettes overwhelm PSC, Rust College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ITTA BENA -- It look less than two hours Wednesday for the Mississippi Valley State women's volleyball team to capture a pair of victories in their home opener at the Harrison HPER Complex.

The Devilettes (4-11) wiped away Rust College and Philander Smith College, 3-0, in each game in front of Valley's home crowd.

In the first contest, against Rust College, it took just 56 minutes for MVSU to send the Lady Bearcats back to Holly Springs. The Devilettes swamped Rust 25-10, 25-3 and 25-7 to defeat the Lady Bearcats for the second time this season, by the same score.

Each Devilette finished with a positive hitting percentage with Taylor Delaire leading the way with 11 kills on 21 attacks. Ilashia Hale and Halee Clark also had a good game with eight kills apiece. Athena Abary finished wiht 21 assists and Steffi Rodriguez had a season-high eight service aces.

Philander Smith
MVSU came back in the following game and pounded Philander Smith College, 3-0, to capture its second win over PSC this season. MVSU won in straight sets, 25-15, 25-13 and 25-12.

For the second straight game, Delaire finished with double-digit kills (10) and a game-high hitting percentage of .643. Clark put up seven kills while Hale and Andrea Lopez chipped in five each. Abary had a game-high 18 assists and six service aces. Clark also finished with six service aces.

MVSU will be back in action Sept. 24 when they host Tougaloo College at 6 p.m. at the Harrison HPER Complex.
