ITTA BENA -- Former Mississippi Valley State University sports information director Marlon Reed, 38, passed away on January 15, 2014.

Reed began his duties in the athletic communicatiosn department in 2001. He was named SWAC SID of the Year in 2003.

He was born in East Baton Rouge Parish and was a resident of Livingston Parish. Reed graduated from Southern University in 1998. He is survived by his children: Keturah Butler-Reed, Marlon Reed, Jr., and Austin Reed; parents: Frederic and Linda Reed; brothers: Frederick Reed, Denmark Reed, Malcolm Reed (Karista), and Daniel Reed. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 24 from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Baptist Church, 1252 North Acadian Thruway East. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Rabenhorst Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
