ITTA BENA -- Mississippi Valley State ended the season last Saturday with a 34-3 win at Texas Southern and now more good news has surfaced regarding the Delta Devil program.
MVSU junior safety Kevin Eugene was named SWAC Defensive Player of the Week and redshirt sophomore receiver Julian Stafford has been tapped SWAC Specialist of the Week for their peformances against the Tigers.
Eugene had a remarkable day, including two defensive touchdowns -- one on a 31-yard interception return and another on a 100-yard fumble return. The Miami, Fla. native finished the day with five tackles and a pair of interceptions.
Stafford, meanwhile, torched TSU both on offense and special teams. The Memphis native had five catches for 160 yards and a TD. He also returned the game's opening kickoff 95 yards for a score, his second kickoff return for a TD this season.
It marked the second time this season Stafford has been honored by the SWAC. Earlier this year, he was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week.
