Rice-Totten Stadium Track
Track & Field (1958 – Present)
Located on the campus of Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Mississippi, the track at Rice-Totten Stadium has been the long-standing home of Delta Devils Track & Field since 1958. Constructed during a period of institutional growth, the facility was designed to support both football and track & field, quickly becoming a central hub for athletics at MVSU.
In its early years, the track featured a traditional cinder surface, consistent with collegiate standards of the era. Generations of Valley student-athletes trained and competed on that surface, building a reputation for toughness and resilience that became synonymous with Mississippi Valley State athletics. As the sport evolved, the track was later upgraded to a synthetic surface, improving performance conditions while maintaining the stadium’s historic layout.
Rice-Totten Stadium has hosted conference meets, collegiate competitions, and daily training for decades, serving as a developmental ground for sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, and throwers who represented MVSU across the SWAC and beyond. The venue stands not only as a competition site, but as a symbol of continuity—linking the program’s formative years to its present-day mission.
Today, the Rice-Totten Stadium track remains an active and meaningful part of Mississippi Valley State University’s athletic tradition, reflecting both respect for history and a commitment to preparing student-athletes for the future.
