Box Score ITTA BENA -- The Mississippi Valley State women's basketball team earned its first victory of the season Saturday following a 72-57 victory over Philander Smith College at the Harrison HPER Complex.
Alia Frank paced the Devilettes (1-3) with 17 points and six rebounds on 8-of-9 shots from the field. Davina Jefferson was the only other MVSU player in double-figures with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
MVSU lead throughout much of the entire game and held a 32-24 halftime lead.
Philander Smith (5-4) cut the lead to 66-55 with under 5 minutes on the clock, but the Devilettes pushed back using four straight points by Dominique Walker.
Caryan Jones led the Lady Panthers with 17 points while Jerricka Scott chipped in 13.
Walker Khristina Clemons came off the bench to score nine points each for MVSU.
The Devilettes will be back in action Tuesday when the travel to Ole Miss. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Tad Smith Coliseum.
