Box Score ATLANTA -- Georgia State defeated Mississippi Valley State 76-60 Saturday in the opening game of the Holiday & Hoops Tournament at the GSU Sports Arena.
The Devilettes (3-7) were led by freshman Derita Silas who had 11 points off the bench. She was the lone MVSU player to score in double-figures while Alia Frank, A'Shanti Weathers and Davina Jefferson chipped in seven points each.
GSU (8-2) ran off to a 13-0 lead through the first four minutes and held a 47-22 halftime advantage. The Panthers never let go of the lead, despite Valley outscoring GSU 38-29 in the second half.
Tiffany Anderson and Kendra Long led the Panthers with 12 points each and were two of four GSU players to score in double-figures.
MVSU will play in Sunday's consolation game against either Charlotte or Toledo.
