OXFORD -- For the second straight week, Mississippi Valley State defeated an SEC opponent.

Last week, it was the Valley baseball team shocking Alabama; and this time around, the MVSU softball squad is making headlines. The Devilettes routed Ole Miss, 4-1, Tuesday behind another phenomenal pitching effort by Alicia Lorenz.

Lorenz (16-8) allowed just one run on six hits with four strikeouts to lead the Devilettes (27-17, 13-0 SWAC) to its 10th consecutive victory. It marked the second time in school history that the Devilettes have defeated the Rebels (17-29).

MVSU scored three of its four runs in the third inning. Nicole Burr, who had two hits, had an RBI in both the third and fifth inning. Alexandra Sullivan also had two hits for the Devilettes.

Valley will be on the road this weekend in their final series of the regular season. The Devilettes will travel to  face Alabama State Friday at 6 p.m. before playing a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
