ULL blanks Devilettes in NCAA Regional

BOX SCORE

LAFAYETTE, La. -- The Mississippi Valley State softball team fell into the loser's bracket Friday following a 8-0 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette, the host team of the NCAA Regional.

The Ragin Cajuns used a 5-run fifth inning -- which included two home runs -- to power past the Devilettes (34-18), stopping their win streak at 17 games.

The loss pits Valley against Baylor Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in a win-or-go-home game. Baylor fell 1-0 to Stanford in the opening game of the tournament Friday.

"Just dropping one game isn't the end of the road for us," said MVSU head coach Lee Smith, "and we we know that. We'll be ready to go tomorrow."

Alexandria Robertson accounted for the Devilettes' lone hit on the night.

Alicia Lorenz (19-9), who gave up seven earned runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts, suffered the loss.
