MVSU softball splits on second day of Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONROE, La. -- The Mississippi Valley softball team won one of two games Saturday at the La.-Monroe Mardi Gras Classic. 

The Devilettes (1-3) defeated Wichita State 3-1 before falling to UC Santa Barbara 6-3 in the final game. 

MVSU needed only four hits -- two apiece from Kishti Kamaka and Alexandria Robertson -- to get its first win of the season. Kamaka had two RBIs. Kimberly Spivey (1-1) worked all seven innings for the Devilettes, allowing seven hits and one earned run. She had four strikeouts. 

Alicia Lorenz (0-2) suffered the loss against Santa Barbara after the Gauchos poured in three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Nicole Burr accounted for two of MVSU's five hits.

Sunday's games were canceled due to rain. 

MVSU will be back in Louisiana Friday when they take part in the Louisiana-Lafayette Tournament.
