Box Score 4 OXFORD, Miss. -- The Mississippi Valley State softball team won one of five games this weekend at the Red & Blue Classic, hosted by Ole Miss.
The Devilettes (2-11) fell to UT-Martin 5-1 on Friday then defeated Middle Tennessee State 11-2 Saturday behind solid pitching from Kimberly Spivey. MVSU ended Saturday with a 7-0 defeat at the hands of Drake.
MVSU then suffered two losses Sunday: 7-2 against McNeese State and a narrow 2-1 loss to Ole Miss.
In the win against Middle Tennessee, Valley racked up 13 hits, including three by Alexandria Robertson. Nicole Burr hit her third homerun of the season. Spivey had three strike outs in five innings of work.
Against Ole Miss, the Devilettes held a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Lady Rebels put two runs on the scoreboard. Yasmine Battle accounted for two of MVSU's five hits in the game and Alicia Lorenz (0-7) suffered the loss.
The Devilettes will be on the road Tuesday for a doubleheader against William Carey. The first game is set for 4 p.m.
