Devilette softball finishes 1-3 at tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Mississippi Valley State softball team won one of four games this weekend at the 2013 Tiger Classic, hosted by Tennessee State.

The Devilettes (7-15) fell to St. Louis 5-1 in nine innings Saturday's in its first game before defeating Indiana 5-2 in the nightcap. Following the big, however, MVSU suffered a 2-0 loss to Nebraska-Omaha and a 5-4 eight-inning defeat to Tennessee State.

In Valley's win over Indiana, senior pitcher Alicia Lorenz was dominant throughout the entire seven innings. She didn't allow any earned runs and had 10 strikeouts.

MVSU scored its first run thanks to an Indiana error in the second inning before Yasmin Battle knocked in another run in the same inning with a hit up the middle. The Devilettes added three more runs in the sixth, with the final one due to another Indiana error.

Lorenz and Xiomara Perez were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Devilettes will be on the road Wednesday, March 13 at William Carey. The first of two games is set for 4 p.m.
