Devilettes drop pair to William Carey

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Mississippi Valley State dropped a pair of softball games to in-state opponent William Carey on Wednesday.

The Lady Crusaders edged the Devilettes 5-4 in game one and 3-1 in game two.

Game One
William Carey (12-5) scored three early runs in the first inning, but MVSU answered with four of its own in the top of the second. Omeshia Moffett and Yasmin Battle each hit RBI-singles while the Devilettes also scored on a passed ball and an error. But the Lady Crusaders' Hannah Cook-Kelly homored in the third inning to tie the game at 4 before scoring the game-deciding run on a single by Katy White in the fourth.

Cassandra Rivera (0-1) suffered her first loss of the season. She allowed five earned runs on five hits in four innings of work. Battle and Alexandra Sullivan each had two hits for Valley (7-17).

Game Two
MVSU scored its only run of the game on a RBI-double by Alexandria Robertson in the second inning. She had two of Valley's four hits on the night. Valley's Alicia Lorenz (3-9) allowed three earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

The Devilettes will be in a tournament at Jackson State on Friday and Saturday. The Devilettes will face UTEP and Cleveland twice during the two-day event.
