Box Score 2 JACKSON, Miss. -- The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State got revenge against UTEP Saturday with a convincing 6-1 victory over the Miners in a softball tournament hosted by Jackson State. The Devilettes, however, fell 5-3 to Cleveland State in its final game of the day.
MVSU (8-20), who lost 12-9 to UTEP on Friday, limited the Miners to just two hits and forced them to commit four errors. Valley scored three runs in the first inning, including two thanks to UTEP errors. The Devilettes then scored one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning on an RBI-single by Alexandria Robertson, a RBI-triple from Yasmin Battle and a single to centerfield by Nicole Burr.
Robertson, Battle and Alicia Lorenz each led MVSU with two hits apiece.
Lorenz (4-11) earned the the victory, allowing just one earned run in seven innings of work. She finished with seven strikeouts.
In the final game, MVSU gave up 11 hits as Cleveland State claimed a 5-3 victory. Burr led Valley with two hits while Lorenz suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs in two innings of relief work. She had four strikeouts and allowed four hits.
The Devilettes will be at Texas College on Thursday, before playing in the SWAC Round-Up Tournament in Longview, Texas on Friday through Sunday.
