MVSU softball win 1 of 2 games Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 IRONDALE, Ala. -- The Mississippi Valley State softball team split a pair of games Saturday in the Tiny Laster Classic.

MVSU (4-12) defeated South Carolina State 10-0 to start the day before suffering a 7-0 defeat to Hampton in the final game of the day.

Against SCST, Nicole Burr homored twice and had four RBIs while Xiomara Perez added three hits. Alicia Lorenz (1-7) earned her first win of the season. The senior standout allowed just two hits and had six strikeouts.

MVSU's Tracey Williams had two hits while Kimberly Spivey and Alexandria Robertson each hit a double.

Valley, however, suffered a setback against Hampton, falling 7-0. Perez accounted for two of MVSU's four hits while Kimberly Spivey (3-5) suffered the loss.

The Devilettes will play in their final game of the tournament Sunday at 1:30 p.m. against Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Friday's game
MVSU opened the tournament Friday with a 5-4 win against Savannah State, after pouring in four runs in the sixth inning to secure the victory. Robertson ended MVSU's scoring with a sixth inning two-run homer.

Spivey earned the win after working the last 2.2 innings in relief. She allowed just one earned run and had four strikeouts.
