Devilettes fall in SWAC Tournament opener

Box Score DECATUR, Ala. -- Mississippi Valley State gave up six runs to Prairie View A&M in the first two innings Wednesday and it proved to be enough for the Lady Panthers to send the Devilettes to the loser's bracket of the SWAC Tournament.

Prairie View scored three runs in the first and second inning at Wilson Morgan Park en route to a 6-2 win over MVSU on the first day of the SWAC Softball Tournament.

The Devilettes will now have to face Alcorn State on Thursday at 1 p.m. Valley must defeat the Lady Braves to remain in the double-elimination tournament.

On Wednesday, MVSU (20-30) committed four crucial errors and scored its only runs of the game in the final two innings. Alexandra Sullivan hit an RBI-single in the sixth inning and Alexandria Robertson knocked in a run in the seventh inning on a double.

Valley finished with four hits on the day, compared to Prairie View's six.

MVSU's Cassandra Rivera gave up six runs on five hits in four innings of work. Alicia Lorenz finished the game, striking out four of 12 batters in three innings of work. She allowed just one hit.
