Devilettes stay alive at SWAC Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DECATUR, Ala. -- The Mississippi Valley State softball team is still in the hunt for another SWAC Softball Tournament championship.

After falling to Prairie View A&M on Wednesday, the Devilettes bounced back Thursday with a 4-2 win over Alcorn State and a 1-0 victory over Texas Southern.

MVSU (22-30) will have to keep the magic going Friday at noon when they face Prairie View again. The Devilettes must win the game to stay in the double-elimination tournament.

Alcorn State
MVSU's Alicia Lorenz gave up just one earned run on four hits in seven innings of work to help the Devilettes advance after a 4-2 win over Alcorn State.

Valley committed three errors, but finished with five more hits than the Lady Braves. MVSU's Brittany Lilly finished 3-for-3 while Natalia Covarrubias added a pair of hits. Yasmin Battle led the Devilettes with two RBIs.

Texas Southern
Lorenz and Kimberly Spivey allowed just three Texas Southern hits and the Devilettes held on for the win. Spivey earned the victory, giving up just one hit in five innings of work while Lorenz pitched the final two innings, finishing with three stirkeouts.

Valley's Alexandria Robertson and Omeshia Moffett each had two hits.

Lilly knocked in the game's lone run with an RBI-single in the fourth inning.
