NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The third season at the helm for Mississippi Valley State women's basketball coach Elvis Robinson begins Thursday as the Devilettes travel to take on Tulane on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Devlin Fieldhouse.

The last time Tulane and MVSU met was in 2012 in the first round of the WNIT.

MVSU is coming off a 9-21 finish last season, which ended with a loss to Jackson State in the SWAC Tournament in Houston, Texas. This year, the Devilettes will be without two of its most consistent players from last season -- twins Joncyee and Jasmyne Sanders. But, the Devilettes do have the reigning SWAC Freshman of the Year, Ashley Beals, who put up more than 10 points and 6 rebounds per game last season.  With the absence of the Sanders twins, Beals' role is expected to increase even more.

Also returning for Valley is defensive specialist A'Shanti Weathers, who is the lone senior on the team. She averaged 7.5 points and 3.7 rebounds last season and scored in double-digits eight times. Christina Reed will be returning for her sophomore season after making an impact on both ends of the court in 2013-14. The Indianola, Miss. native averaged 4.9 points and 4.4 rebounds last season, scoring a season-high 13 points against Jackson State in March.

Other returners include: Chelsea Mabry (Beldon, Miss.), Shada Nolen (Byhalia, Miss.), Kadesha Floyd (Miami, Fla.) and Taylor Green (Fort Smith, Ark.).

Meanwhile, there will be four new faces suiting up this season: Feleshia Walters, Ronisha Morris, Kahdejah Stevens and Jessica Wilson.
