KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Mississippi Valley State's Christina Reed and A'Shanti Weathers combined to score 26 points in a loss Friday against Missouri-Kansas City in the first game of the Plaza Lights Classic.
UMKC defeated the Devilettes, 62-46, behind Aries Washington's 16 points to lead the 'Roos (2-3)Â to their second win of the season.
Weathers and Reed scored 13 points each for Valley, who will face George Mason on Saturday in their final game of the Plaza Lights Classic. Reed made 6-of-11 shots and contributed a team-high six rebounds before fouling out in the second half. Weathers converted 3-of-10 three-point attempts and finished with three steals and a pair of assists in the loss.
Defensively, MVSU forced 17 UMKC turnovers and scored 10 points off of them.
Shada Nolen started her first of the season and had a team-high four assists and four steals. Â
MVSU and George Mason are set to tip off at 1 p.m. Saturday.
