HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Mississippi Valley State women's soccer team put up a great defensive effort Thursday against Alabama State but two late goals proved to be the difference as the Lady Hornets defeated the Devilettes, 2-0, in the quarterfinals of the SWAC Soccer Tournament at the John Hunt Soccer Complex.
MVSU held Alabama State scoreless for the first 68 minutes of the game before Kaedi Walther scored to give ASU a 1-0 lead. Then, after the 81st minute, the Lady Hornets struck again -- this time on an Aaliyah Lewis goal.
Valley managed to attempt nine shots, with Nykosi Simmons, Ernestina Abambila and Heather Craddock accounting for two each. Both of Simmons' shots were on goal.
ASU attempted 18 shots (11 on goal).
