Box Score 4 AUBURN, Ala. -- The Mississippi Valley State softball team was unable to garner a victory this weekend at the Wilson/DeMarini Classic held on the campus of Auburn University.Â
The Devilettes (1-11) lost to Jacksonville State 13-1 on Friday in the third meeting between the two teams this season. MVSU then came up short 10-0 to Samford on Saturday before losing a pair of games Sunday, 12-0 to Purdue and 9-4 to Samford in the second meeting.Â
Jacksonville State 13, MVSU 1
JSU scored five runs in the both the first and fourth inning Friday in the five-inning victory. Deja Talton and Tracey Williams each had two hits apiece for the Devilettes. Cassandra Rivera gave up nine earned runs on 10 hits with one strikeout.Â
Samford 10, MVSU 0Â
Tenna Patterson suffered the loss for Valley, giving up four earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout in four innings of action.Â
Purdue 12, MVSU 0Â
Patterson gave up five earned runs on 12 hits with four strikeouts in the loss. MVSU was unable to get a hit in the game.Â
Samford 9, MVSU 4Â
MVSU started the game off on the right foot with a two-run home run by Deja Talton in the first inning. Samford, however, scored the next eight runs including six in the third inning. The Devilettes attempted a comeback late in the game when Yasmin Battle scored on a passed ball in the fifth inning. Then, Battle knocked in Valley's final run in the sixth inning on an RBI-single.Â
