Box Score LONGVIEW, Texas -- The Mississippi Valley State softball team played one of its best games of the season Friday in its first game against a SWAC opponent.
The Devilettes (3-22, 1-0 SWAC) upended Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 8-3, at the Lear Athletic Complex in the SWAC Round Up.
MVSU had a season-high 12 hits and took advantage of three UAPB errors in the first of five games at the SWAC Round Up. Courtenay Brooks hit a solo home run to right centerfield to give Valley a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.
UAPB was held scoreless until the fifth when when they scored two of its three runs.
Tracey Williams went 3-for-3 for Valley while Brooks, Jahcenda Garrett and Omeshia Moffett chipped in two hits apiece. MVSU's Cassandra Rivera gave up just two hits in three innings of work.
Next up for the Devilettes will be Southern University (10 a.m.) and Grambling State (12:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
