Box Score 2 ITTA BENA -- The Mississippi Valley State softball team opened up its home conference play Saturday with a pair of wins over Alcorn State.Â
The Devilettes defeated the Lady Braves 13-4 in the first game before overcoming Alcorn, 1-0, in the final game of the day.Â

Game 1 (MVSU 13, Alcorn St. 4)
MVSU's bats woke up midway through the game when the Devilettes scored 12 of its 13 runs in the final three innings. Valley finished with 11 hits and took advantage of six Alcorn errors while sprinting to its third SWAC victory of the season. Omeshia Moffett led the way, going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Her three hits marked a season high for the Hattiesburg native. Courtenay Brooks and Jahcenda Garrett chipped in a pair of hits each while Garrett and Natalia Covarrubias each had two RBIs. Tenna Patterson (4-10) won her fourth game of the season, allowing just two earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts. Cassandra Rivera had four strikeouts in two innings of relief work.Â
Game 2 (MVSU 1, Alcorn St. 0)
MVSU withstood a late run by Alcorn State to defeat the Lady Braves, 1-0. MVSU's Tenna Patterson struck out two Alcorn batters in the top of the 7th inning with the bases loaded to secure the second consecutive win for the Devilettes (6-25, 4-3 SWAC).Â
MVSU's lone run came in the second inning when Courtenay Brooks scored following an Alcorn error.Â
Deja Talton paced the Devilettes with two of its six hits. Cassandra Rivera (2-14) won her second game of the season, giving up just one hit and one walk in four innings of action on the mound. Patterson surrendered four hits and struck out four Alcorn batters in three innings of relief work.
