Box Score ITTA BENA -- Mississippi Valley State closed out its three-game series against Alcorn State with a 12-10 win Sunday after nearly squandering an early lead.
The Lady Braves scored six runs in the sixth inning and took a 10-9 lead before the Devilettes responded the bottom half of the inning. MVSU (7-25, 5-3 SWAC) took advantage of a couple walks and an error by Alcorn to load the bases with two outs. MVSU's Annaisa Sanchez followed it up with what would turn out to be a game-winning three-run single for the Devilettes, who are now riding a three-game win streak heading into a showdown with Mississippi State on Tuesday in Itta Bena.
Tenna Patterson (5-10) worked 4.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits.
Deja Talton, Brandi Williams and Brianna Holmes each had two hits apiece for the Devilettes who finished with nine in the game. Williams and Talton also each had two RBIs.
MVSU first got on the scoreboard in the first inning using a two-run home run to left centerfield by Talton, her third of the season.
The Devilettes will host Mississippi State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
