Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- In its final non-conference game of the 2014 season, the Mississippi Valley State softball team suffered a 4-0 loss at Memphis on Tuesday.
The Tigers hit a RBI-single in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead before stretching the lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning on a two-run single by Georganna Goodwin. Brandi Williams and Natalia Covarrubias accounted for MVSU's two hits on the day and Cassandra Rivera (2-17) gave up one earned run on four hits in the loss.
MVSU (7-32, 5-6 SWAC) currently sits in third place in the SWAC Eastern Division with matchups against the top two teams in the conference left on the schedule. The Devilettes will be at Alabama A&M (15-19, 10-4 SWAC) on Friday and Saturday for a three-game series. Then, Valley will close out the regular season April 25-26 at home against Jackson State (24-25, 14-0 SWAC). The first game of the doubleheader on Saturday, April 26 will be televised on ESPNU.
The 2014 SWAC Softball Tournament is set for May 7-10 in Decatur, Ala. at Wilson Morgan Park.
