Oxford, Miss. - The Mississippi Valley State Women's basketball team began their season in Oxford, Mississippi, against in state SEC competitor, the University of Mississippi.
The Devilettes took it to the Lady Rebels during the first half of competition with juniors Ashley Beals and Kadesha Floyd knotting 15 and 14 points respectively. Khadejah Stevens also contributed to the hot shooting with ten points.
Entering halftime the Devilettes trailed the Lady Rebels 29-34 and seemed poised to capitalize on their first half momentum.
The Devilettes began the 3rd quarter under tremendous defensive pressure only shooting 34% from the field and failing to capitalize from the charity stripe making only seven of twelve free throws.
Unable to keep up with the Devilettes speed the Lady Rebels took advantage of their height and size pounding the paint for 44 points while adding 25 points from the free throw line in the 3rd and 4th quarters.
Mississippi Valley will next be in action again on Sunday, November 15 in Nashville, Tennessee, as they face the Lady Commodores of Vanderbilt University.
