Greenwood, Miss. - The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes recorded their first win of the season, defeating Blue Mountain College Lady Toppers 72-67.
After a closely contested first half the Devilettes left the court with a 34-32 lead. The second half featured an eruption of scoring from sophomore guard, Ashley Beals who went 7-7 from the field and 8-11 from the charity stripe. Beals finished the game with 29 points, 3 assists, and one steal.
Christina Reed notched 25 points, displaying a bevy of acrobatic moves as she penetrated the lane through the opposing defense. Feleshia Walters came on strong and held down the paint with punishing screens, rebounds, and showed the gift of passing, showing off her high low game multiple times.
The Devilettes travel to the "Magic City" Birmingham, Alabama, to face the Lady Blazers of the University of Alabama Birmingham on December 5 at 2 pm.
Head Coach Elvis Robinson stated, "I am proud of what the team was able to accomplish. They came out and played a balance offensive and defensive contest and walked away with the win. Now we have to look forward to our next contest."
