Devilettes Drop Conference Road Series to Jackson State

Jackson, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University Devilettes Softball team traveled to Jackson, Mississippi, to take on the Jackson State University Lady Tigers. MVSU lost the single game on Friday night, 12-9.
 
The Devilettes jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with a three-RBI homer by Deja Talton; however JSU clawed back into the contest by scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning. Jackson proceeded to score one run in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth.
 
JSU ended their scoring in the bottom of the fourth and Mississippi Valley started scoring again in the top of the fifth. The Devilettes scored three in the fifth, one in the six and wrapped scoring in the seventh with one run.
 
In Game one on Saturday, MVSU struck back with 13-5 victory, earning the win in five innings.
 
The Devilettes started out slow, going scoreless to start the contest, while the Lady Tigers scored three in the first.
 
Despite the sluggish start, MVSU's bats warmed up quickly as they scored two in the second, five in the third and six in the fifth. Jackson's comeback effort ended with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Game three of the series, served as the Devilettes' eighth game in under a week. Jackson escaped with a narrow 5-4 victory over Mississippi Valley.
 
The contest remained scoreless for four and half innings, when JSU scored three in the bottom of the fifth. MVSU scored two in the sixth and seventh to take a one-point lead going into the bottom of the seventh. Jackson was able to score two runs to win the game and the series 2-1.
