GRAMBLING, La. – Mississippi Valley's soccer team surged past the Lady Tigers of Grambling State University 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in Grambling, Louisiana.
Mississippi Valley struck quickly with a well-placed ball from Laadi Issaka to Danielle Allen at the 2:19 of the first half. Issaka pushed the Devilettes up 2-0, a little over two minutes later, on a cross from Mariana Balbao. Karenth Terrazas scored in the 34th minutem on a pass from Balbao.
At halftime, MVSU was ahead 3-0 entering the halftime break. The Devilettes' goalie Rita Gyasi relaxed during the opening half as GSU didn't send a shot in her direction.
The second half was more competitive as Grambling State was able to engage Mississippi Valley's goalie. In the 77th minute, GSU's determination paid off, landing them a goal by Florence David.
MVSU fired off ten shots with eight being on goal, while Grambling State recorded five, four of which were on target.
Gyasi finished with two saves, while Sydney Newports recorded one save and conceded one goal.
