ITTA BENA, Miss. - The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes finished the regular season in grand fashion, breezing past the Lady Braves of Alcorn State University 9-3.
Laadi Issaka blazed brightly during today's contest, scoring seven of Mississippi Valley's nine goals. The contest opened with Heather Craddock scoring three minutes in. Issaka scored the first of many goals in the seventh minute, moving MVSU 2-0. Two minutes later
Mariana Balbao scored on a pass from Issaka. Down 3-0 Alcorn State attempted a rally, scoring at the 11:11 mark. With stealth, Issaka took the score up 4-1 with a little over five minutes remaining in the opening half.Â
Sydney Newport served as the goalie for Mississippi Valley, recorded four saves in the first half of the contest while allowing one goal.
The second half was totally in favor of the Devilettes as the defense shut down every effort by the Lady Braves' offense. Despite a stiffer offense, ASU was able to muster two goals in the second. Issaka scored all five of Mississippi Valley's goals in the second half.
Newport didn't record any saves in the second, finished with four saves and three conceded goals.
Mississippi Valley travels to Prairie View, Texas, for the 2016 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament.
