TUSCALOOSA - The Mississippi Valley State Women's basketball team began their season in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, against SEC competitor, the University of Alabama.
The Devilettes commanded attention in the first quarter for the Crimson Tide. Going into the second Mississippi Valley trailed 21-13. The second quarter, Alabama was able to smother the Devilettes, holding them to eight-points, while scoring 28.
Christina Reed paced MVSU in the opening half with eight-points, four rebounds and two steals. Lauren Elliot added three steals for Mississippi Valley.
In the third quarter, UA maintained their defensive pressure, holding MVSU to eight points, while scoring 19. In the fourth, the Devilettes offensive began to gain traction, scoring 15-points. They relinqued 25 to the Crimson Tide, dropping their season opener 93-44.
Reed finished with 15-points, eight rebounds, three steals and one assist. Elliot dropped 12-points, four rebounds, four steals and one assist. Ashley Beals tallied eight-points, eight rebounds, one block and one steal. Rickeisha Sheard's hands were lightning quick as she finished with five steals and four rebounds.
Mississippi Valley returns home to take on Tougaloo College on November 17 at 11:00 a.m.
