Devilettes Softball Falters on Day Two

HAMMOND, La. – Day two of the Southeastern Louisiana Tournament saw the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State drop both contests. In game one versus, the University of Tennessee at Martin, MVSU dropped an 8-1 decision and the Salukis of Southern Illinois defeated the Devilettes 12-0.

Game One: Tennessee at Martin

With an 8-1 decision Mississippi Valley fell to the Skyhawks of UT at Martin. MVSU finished the contest with three hits and four errors, while UTM tallied 11 hits and one error.

Rebekah Clinton (0-2) was credited for the loss for Mississippi Valley. She pitched all seven innings, conceding 11 hits and eight runs, while recording one strikeout and one walk. Holly Brown scored the Devilettes' lone run, with Deja Talton being credited with the RBI, in the third inning.

Game Two: Southern Illinois

With a critical strategy, the Lady Salukis restrained the Devilettes in MVSU's second contest of the day. Mississippi Valley landed three hits and only one error, however they were unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunities. Shyanne Downing took the loss for MVSU.

Southern Illinois scored two in the top of the second, five in the fourth and an additional five in the sixth. They finished with 12 runs on 12 hits and one error.

Downing conceded seven hits, seven runs, seven errors, two walks and a hit by pitch in the 3.2 innings she pitched. Monica Rivera, the relief pitcher, gave up five hits, five runs, one error and two walks in 2.1 innings.
