Softball Opens Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic With Two Losses

GULFPORT, Miss. - The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley opened the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic with a 4-1 loss to the Lady Tigers of the University of Memphis.
 
The Devilettes were able to start scoring in the first inning, when Alexandra Dobbins tripled to bring Holly Brown across the plate.

Memphis' bats were cold through the first two innings, however in the third they were able to score two runs. They also landed two more runs in the fifth to wrap scoring for the contest.   

Shyanne Downing the pitcher of record for MVSU took the loss in the pitcher's circle. Downing allowed nine hits, four runs, one errors and one walk. She also struck out one batter.
 
Kailyn Dunn each recorded two hits to pace the Devilettes.
 
In game two, Mississippi Valley faced the Colonels of Nicholls State. Looking for their second win of the season, the Devilettes fell short in a 6-0 shutout.
 
With clear skies, MVSU's Rebekah Clinton took the field to lead the Devilettes' into battle from the pitcher's circle.
 
Pitching seven complete innings, Clinton allowed nine hits and six runs. She also recorded three errors, two walks and one strikeout.
 
Mississippi Valley finished with two hits and three errors.
