ITTA BENA - The Mississippi Valley softball team and the Lady Braves of Alcorn State series is a heated battle for second place in the eastern division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Game One:
The Alcorn State University Lady Braves defeated the Devilettes 9-0 in five innings. Rebekah Clinton took the loss for Mississippi Valley on the mound, moving to 8-12 on the season.
Alcorn scored once in the third, seven in the fourth and one in the fifth to shutout the home Devilettes. MVSU finished with two hits and four errors, while ASU recorded eight hits and one error.
Game Two:
It all came down to the rubber match. The Lady Braves came out strong scoring one in the top of the first. The second and third innings were tough for the Devilettes as they relinquished five in the second and four in the third.
Mississippi Valley scored two in the second inning to edge their way back into the contest. Dejanae Gage doubled to score Sharia Comier and Ijeyia Alexander. MVSU also score two in the third when Alexander sent a sacrafice fly to center field to score Kailyn Dunn. An error by the the third basemen scored Sharia Comier.
The fourth inning was the Devilettes strongest with four runs scored. Alexandra Dobbins scored on a multitude of errors by the Lady Braves.Deja Talton sent a sacrafice fly to right field to score Jahcenda Garrett; Annaisa Sanchez scored on an error by the catcher.
Alcorn State scored two in the top of the sixth to increase their lead. The Braves secured the contest 12- 8.
