HOUSTON – The Mississippi Valley soccer team suffered a bruising 8-1 loss to the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University.
TSU struck quickly, scoring goals at 3:44 and 8:11, to take a 2-0 lead. Paige Hayward scored her second goal of the contest at 19:36. The Lady Tigers scored an additional goal at 24:34, moving ahead 4-0.
Texas Southern was able to score two more goals in the first half, taking a 6-0 lead into the halftime break.
There was less scoring in the second half but Texas Southern's Hayward, landed her third goal of the game, earning her a hat trick. Laadi Issaka scored the lone goal for the Devilettes with minutes to spare in the contest.
Mississippi Valley's goalies conceded eight goals while tallying eight saves.
The Devilettes return home to host the number one ranked Lady Tigers of Grambling State University on Friday, October 20.
