BATON ROUGE – Sheyenne Bonnick recorded a hat trick in the Devilettes 7-0 shut-out of the Lady Jaguars of Southern University.
Laddi Issaka's performance was equally phenomenal. Issaka not only scored goals, but she also set her teammates up for scores; she landed two goals and three assists.
Issaka opened the game with her first goal of the contest exactly 11 minutes into the action. At the 34:28 mark she assisted Bonnick's on her first goal of the game. Issaka blew through the defense to score from the far-right side at 55:32.
Done scoring, Issaka continued to set up shots. Bonnick scored her second goal, (68:07) unassisted from inside the box. Sarah Molinar powered past the Lady Jags defense at 68:33 to score for the Devilettes. Stephany Adomako and Bonnick landed the final two goals for Mississippi Valley at 81:08 and 82:20 respectively. Both goals were assisted by Issaka.
For the game, MVSU recorded 19 shots. The Devilettes dominated the first half, attempting eight shots while holding Southern to only three shot attempts. Sydney Newport recorded two saves in 13:19 minutes of play, while Rita Gyasi posted one in 76:41 minutes.
Valley returns to action Sunday Oct. 8 when the Devilettes travel to take on the Lady Tigers of Jackson State at 1 p.m.
