MURRAY, Ky. – (Women's Basketball) Mississippi Valley's Devilettes went the distance with the Murray State Racers, with the contest being decided in the final seconds.

The first three periods saw expressive efforts by both teams, yet the final ten-minutes decided the outcome. The fourth saw four knotted scores and three lead changes as both teams raced to the finish. With 29 seconds remaining in the contest, the Devilettes tied the score at 63-63. It was a trip to the free-throw line by Murray State's Ke'Shunan James lifted the Racers to a one-point advantage, with five ticks remaining.

In the opening period, the Racers dashed ahead of Mississippi Valley with consistent pressure and ball handling. Mississippi Valley did not unravel, the team shifted focus and began to apply steady pressure. During the second, the Devilettes led the Racers in circles, the defining moment being a half-court buzzer-beater by LaKendra Bassett, taking MVSU into the locker room up 34-33.

In the third, the MSU and MVSU each tallied 14-points. Mississippi Valley scored 46-points in the paint and 20 on turnovers. Statistically, the Devilettes scored four-points on second chance opportunities 16-points on fast breaks and 15 off the bench. The team shot 40.6 percent for the game. The contest concluded with a score of 64-63.

Kristy Parker scored 23-points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals; while Bassett added 17-points, six steals, four assists and two rebounds. Jazmin Holmon paced the Devilettes in rebounds with eight.

Mississippi Valley will face the University of Dayton on December 21 at 5:00 pm in New Orleans, Louisiana.
