STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi Valley State lost 112-36 to fifth-ranked Mississippi State Thursday evening at Humphrey Coliseum, concluding its non-conference schedule portion.
Kristy Parker was the lone player to score in double-figures for the Devilettes (0-14), notching 10 points. LaKendra Bassett added eight points and five rebounds. Sydney Floyd scored six points and corralled a team-best nine boards.
Mississippi State's Teaira McCowan led all players with 41 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks. She added two steals. Victoria Vivians added 16 points and six rebounds, and Roshunda Johnson added 14 points.
The Devilettes stayed in striking distance early on with the Bulldogs before a 10-2 MSU run led to a 13-point deficit for Mississippi Valley at the end of the first quarter. The contest then got away from the Devilettes as Mississippi State went on a 23-2 run to open the second quarter, during which MVSU was outscored 30-4.Â
Mississippi Valley shot just 24.5 percent from the floor (13-of-53). Meanwhile, Mississippi State went 45-of-73 (61.6 percent) from the floor. The Devilettes committed 25 turnovers in the game.
