Hattiesburg, Miss. – (Softball) Mississippi Valley's softball team faced two tough opponents in Nicholls State and Jacksonville State on Saturday. In the first game of the day, MVSU was shutout 20-0 in five innings; in the second contest MVSU faltered 10-1.
In a case of hot versus cold, the Colonels made their bats sing, whereas the Devilettes' bats were icy. NSU landed 20 runs on 18 hits and no errors. MVSU recorded two hits and four errors. Not every run was earned by Nicholls, some came on defensive errors by the Devilettes.
Chandler Ellis took the loss in the pitcher's circle relinquishing nine runs on eight hits.  
In game two, Mississippi Valley was able to hold the Gamecocks to ten runs, while playing seven complete innings.
It was MVSU who struck first on a single by Jordan Brown, as she drove a runner in for a RBI.
The remainder of the contest swung in the direction of the Jacksonville, as they spread ten runs across several innings, with the largest number coming in the fifth.
