ITTA BENA – (Women's Basketball) The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State were unable to shake the Lady Tigers of Grambling State University's stronghold on the first-place conference ranking. MVSU fell 82-51, yet they are still in the hunt for SWAC gold.
The Lady Tigers entered the contest, ranked first in the SWAC, while MVSU entered with their minds set of toppling GSU from their pedestal. During the first two quarters, the intensity of the action on the court served as a stark reminder that these two teams were leaving it all on the court. GSU carried a 31-26 advantage into the locker room at the break.
Exiting the locker rooms, Mississippi Valley's defense appeared shaky. Grambling State managed to score 30-points in the third, while holding the Devilettes to 16. The final quarter, both teams scored less, however, the Lady Tigers were able to muster enough to lift them over MVSU.
Despite not playing the full contest because of an injury, Ashley Beals finished with a double-double. She tallied 13-points, 10-rebounds, one assist and one block. Kristy Parker notched 12-points and three-rebounds.
