JACKSON, Miss. – (Softball) After a disappointing 11-3 loss to the Lady Tigers of Jackson State, Mississippi Valley entered Saturday's double with fierce determination. In game one, MVSU overpowered JSU 10-6 in extra innings and dropped the second 7-5.
Game One:
In the first contest, Jackson State took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. Unbothered, Mississippi Valley scored two runs in the third inning.
In the fourth, the Devilettes scored three runners and once in the seventh. Jackson State responded with four runs in the seventh, to carry the contest into extra innings.
In the ninth inning, Mississippi put ended the contest in a grand fashion with four runs.
Mississippi Valley finished with 10 runs on 12 hits and no errors.
Chandler Ellis took the win for MVSU in the pitcher's circle.
Game Two:
The rubber match between the two teams ended in favor of the Lady Tigers to the tune of 7-5.
In the opening inning, Mississippi Valley scored one runner; while Jackson State pushed five runners in.
In the top of the second, MVSU scored three runners to close the point deficit. JSU added one runner in the bottom of the second.
In the top of the third, MVSU scored their final runner of the contest. JSU scored their final run in the bottom of the fourth.
The Devilettes finished with five runs on 13 hits and one error while allowing the Lady Tigers seven runs, 14 hits and two errors.
