MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Devilettes and Lady Hornets each played hard during the contest, but it was Alabama State that had the edge at the conclusion of the contest. ASU was able to secure the win 71-46 on their home court.
With quick baskets by both teams, the Devilettes held a slight 6-4 lead with 7:54 remaining in the period. Neither team scored until a layup by Alabama State at 4:54 to tie up the score at six. The Devilettes took a brief lead moments later. The Lady Hornet went on an eight-point run to end the period 14-8.
During the second, MVSU was held to eight points, while Alabama State scored 19. After the break, MVSU's offense heated up. The final period was once again in favor of the Lady Hornets. The Devilettes bench score 16-points and 10 second chance points. ASU's bench scored 31.
Alabama State was paced by Tatyana Calhoun, with 17-points, 17 rebounds.
Kristy Parker scored 14-points, three rebounds and one steal; while Sydney Floyd added 10-points, three rebounds.
Mississippi Valley travels to Huntsville, Alabama, to face the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M University. Game day is set for January 8 at 5:30 pm.
