Devilettes Survive on the Road to Down Lady Braves, 62-61

Lorman, MS --- In a close matchup that was decided in the last two seconds of the game, the Devilettes left Lorman, Mississippi, with their second conference win of the season.

Kenya Arnold sunk a clutch free throw after capitalizing off a late Alcorn turnover to take the one-point lead for the victory. With this win, the Devilettes have official beaten both in state conference foes, Jackson State and Alcorn State.

Statistically, the Mississipi Valley should've been the sure winner; however, 11 missed free throws by the Devilettes proved to make a difference as they fell behind the Lady Braves in the third quarter and until the last seconds of the game.

Both teams stayed within close proximity of each other on paper, but it came down to the team who wanted the win more. The Lady Braves came into the afternoon match with a three-game losing streak, and poor performance from one of their leading scorers, Alexus Freeman.

Despite a poor third quarter performance where the Devilettes allowed the Lady Braves to outscore them 21-9, the Devilettes' passion and discipline resulted in a well-deserved win.

Although, Alcorn State outscored the Devilettes 20-8 in second-chance opportunities, the Devilettes controlled possessions, paint points, and rebounding resulted in them walking away with the win.

The Devilettes shot 39.1 percent from the field, 46.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 35.3 percent from the charity stripe in comparison to Alcorn's 38.3 percent, 26.9 percent, and 53.5 percent respectively.

In the 62-61 win, Kristy Parker lead the way with 21 points on 72.7 percent shooting and seven rebounds. Sydney Floyd had the best game since her return as she contributed 15 points and LaKendra Bassett was just shy of a triple-double with 14 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds.

Coach Walker and the Devilettes will continue on the road as they head to Baton Rouge. LA. The Lady Jaguars of Southern will host the Devilettes Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
