PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Softball) The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley traveled to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to face the Lady Lions of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. UAPB was able to edge out MVSU 8-5.
Mississippi Valley played a great game; however, they were unable to rally back for the win, finishing with five runs on nine hits and one error. Mississippi Valley's pitchers sprinkled nine runs across eight innings and combined for seven strikeouts.
Jodeci Afoa-Tuia tripled to right field to score Kennedy Lester in the top of the first inning. A homer by the Lady Lions in the bottom of the inning, knotted the contest at one. In the third inning, Sharia Cormier singled to right field to score Lexany Terrones. UAPB scored seven runs in the third to go up 8-2.
In the top of the sixth and seventh innings, MVSU scored one and two runs respectively. Ikeyia Alexander singled to center field to score Tabrielle Higgins. In the seventh, an error on the shortstop allowed Kailyn Dunn to reach first and Afoa-Tuia and Terrones to score.
The two teams will face off in a double on March 23 at 12 and 2 pm.
