MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Mississippi Valley's softball team was on the field early this morning as they faced the Lady Panthers of Prairie View A & M University in a 9:00 am elimination contest.
With three runs on six hits and a contest without errors, the Devilettes played a solid contest. Prairie View landed one more hit than MVSU and pushed in one additional runner, giving them a 4-3 edge.
PVAMU scored their runs in the first three innings, while MVSU maintained defensive pressure, preventing a runaway contest.
The Devilettes responded to the Lady Panthers with two runs in the top of the fourth and one in the fifth. Sharia Cormier's sacrifice fly to right field allowed Jodeci Afoa-Tuia to score the first run of the contest for MVSU. Dejanae Gage scored on a wild pitch to earn the second of MVSU's two-runs in the fourth. In the fifth, Kennedy Lester singled to right field to score Miranda Sandoval.
Gage kept the tempo for the Devilettes, going 2-for-3 at the plate and scoring one run.
Alyssa Montes (6-7) suffered the loss, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing four runs off five hits.
